Backstory

My name is Kate Carrick. I’m the oldest of 6 born to two wizard parents. I have lived all my live (until now) on an estate outside of Ayr, Scotland. I’m a first year Ravenclaw who loves reading, writing, traveling, and meeting new people. I’m your typical looking Scot, with dirty blonde and red hair with loads of freckles across my nose and cheeks. My wand is a 13 3/4” Maple with a phoenix feather core. My patronus is a Husky. Fun fact about me is my father is an Earl in the muggle world which technically makes me a Lady—although I don’t care too much about those titles and nonsense, you can just call me Kate! Also this first year I’m taking Charms, Transfiguration, Astronomy, DADA, and Herbology.

(If you want to hear more about me and my family growing up ie. our “muggle-facing” life I have plenty of stories and pictures where that comes from! — shoot me a message or post on my board)

15 Years later: (Department of Education—Research Focus) After graduating from Hogwarts, I took a few years to travel around the world and do my own research on how languages affect magic. After presenting my discovery that certain spells like to be called in their mother tongue, I was offered the opportunity to head a research division within the Department of Education at the Ministry of Magic. As a new employee at the Ministry of Magic, I was at first quite intimidated by the impressive resumes of my colleagues I was supposed to be leading. However, with such an incredible team of researchers, it is truly amazing what we have uncovered in the past two years. Even as a somewhat recent graduate of Hogwarts, I find I miss my alma mater frequently so I love the fact that I am able to get the best of both worlds: being an adult and visiting Hogwarts on occasion. I love the fact that I still have the opportunity to travel for work, as that is one of my biggest passions apart from linguistics (I’ve learned eight languages in my 26 years of my life). Our newest research includes studies in parseltounge (if it can be learned and not just genetically acquired) and the impact of early exposure to magic on young witches and wizards.
