Lesson 7: Fork to Quill

Chapter 7
~Fork

-Used for eating in Western culture
-Used to move food from a plate to one''s mouth by stabbing or scooping
-Many different types, mostly used in fine dining due to many courses(like salad forks, dessert forks, dinner forks, oyster forks, etc)
-We're using a dinner fork, the most common kind, but spell will work with any type of fork
-Sight: Silver with metallic sheen, smooth appearance, 4 tines coming from rounded base which tapers into a handle. No patterns/designs
-Sound: Sharp, metallic clatter when dropped onto table
-Taste: Faintly metallic but mostly tasteless
-Smell: none
-Touch: Cold, smooth, no bumps or hard edges, each tine is slightly sharp

~Quills

-writing utensil
-made from molted flight feather(preferably primary wing feather)
-Comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors, all used for same purpose
-Most common type is a pheasant quill, which we are using since it's easiest to transfigure
-Less common types include eagle, peacock, fwooper, and even phoenix feathers, but they're more difficult due to difference in size/color
-Spell will not make a magical quill of any kind(one of the Exceptions is magical energy)
-Spell also won't turn one into a sugar quill
-Sight: light brown or off-white color with stripes, stiff spine down center w/ bristles/barbs coming off of sides. Bottom free of barbs and comes to a sharp point
-Sound: Slight scratching when writing
-Taste: A bit like hair
-Smell: Nothing strong, maybe a slight earthy aroma
-Touch: Barbs feel slightly coarse, with ones closer to tip being softer, spine is smooth, tip is pointed

~The Transformation

-A bit trickier since quill and fork aren't too similar
-requires more concentration
-Spell block:

Spell: Fork to Quill
Incantation: Scribblifors (SKRIB-leh-fors)
Wand Movement: Tap fork twice
Concentration: Medium-low, visualize fork turning into quill
Willpower: Low

-Complications: Nothing happens, turn fork the color of pheasant feather, or make a silver quill with no proper colorings

~Origins

-Created by Arthur Scatterfield when he was tired of breaking his quills
-Spell is used now for convenience(Ex: You're in a restaurant and have a great novel idea)
-Please practice spell in pairs

~Assignments

-Mandatory quiz
