✰ Diagon Ally

Chapter 5
They did not leave for Diagon Ally that night. Clover's parents insisted on having a large, fancy dinner for the first day of having all four members of the family back together. It was just as well, though, as Jacob explained why Artemis kept coming back.
"She's waiting for a reply," he explained. "You have to send a letter back confirming that you're coming to Hogwarts by July 31. You're lucky I came, the 31st is tomorrow."
Clover felt a bit crestfallen that Artemis had not been coming because she liked the Turner household, and the owl would stop coming now that she had flown off with Clover's letter, but her disappointment was quickly replaced with excitement for the morning.

Clover got up before dawn. She lept out of her bed and tossed aside the covers, muttering "I'll make it later" to no one in particular. She pulled on her favorite green-brown tunic and some worn dark blue jeans that were peppered with holes along the bottom (from the cauldron exploding) and were starting to rip at the knees. Her thin wire glasses completed the look. She left her silvery-blue hair loose, and it flew out behind her as she ran into the kitchen.
"Someone's up early," Clover's mother said. She was in a pale blue bathrobe and was leaning on the kitchen counter, a large cup of coffee in her hands. She ruffled Clover's hair and kissed her forehead. "Why don't you sit down, and I'll get breakfast ready."
Clover slid into a wooden barstool chair that faced the counter and watched her mother prepare the pancake batter.
Jackie Tyler was a pretty woman, in a simple way. Her slightly wavy black hair was usually loose down her back or in a ponytail over her shoulder. She liked plain blouses and sweaters, such as ones in cream or rich brown, which highlighted her ivory skin and soft grey eyes.
By the time she had the last of the pancakes dished out onto plates, Jacob came out of his room. He was wearing his Gryffindor quidditch sweater and black jeans.
"You ready to go after we eat, Cloves?" He asked her. Clover only had to smile to convey her answer.

Tap, tap tap. Jacob knocked the tip of his wand against the brick wall three times as they stood behind the Leaky Cauldron. As far as Clover could tell, Jacob didn't cast any magic spells. He didn't say anything, and there was no sign that anything had happened.
And then the bricks shifted. The wall groaned in protest as it rearranged itself in a flurry of concrete. When everything had settled, there was a brick archway leading to a bustling, cobbled street, lined with shops of all kinds.
And the people. Everywhere she looked, there we people- witches and wizards, that is- dressed in strange robes, bustling about, carrying live owls and giant cauldrons and candy quills.
"Do you still have your letter?" Jacob asked, breaking her trance.
"Right here." Clover pulled the letter out from the back pocket of her jeans. She opened it up to find the note from the Deputy Headmistress, along with another piece of paper she hadn't noticed before.
"That's your list of supplies," Jacob advised her. 'And you can find it all here, in Diagon Ally!"
"Where will we ever find all of this?" Clover asked, dazzled by the foreign items, seemingly endless shops, and hoards of strange people.
"Well, there's only one way to find out. Let's start shopping!" Jacob grabbed her hand and pulled her down the street, into the wonderful maze of Diagon Ally.
