✰ A Strange Choosing

Chapter 6
Clover shifted her hands, trying to pull her cart piled high with items faster to keep up with Jacob's long strides. "Where are we going now?" She called out to her brother.
"The best, most important stop!" he answered, turning and walking backward to show off his loopy grin. "Now come on, hurry!" He turned on his heel so he was facing forward again and continued to forge onward through the crowds of people.
"You're not the one lugging a cart full of stuff," Clover murmured under her breath, but she continued to follow Jacob until he ducked into a three-story, dimly lit shop. She could just make out the words Ollivanders: Maker of Fine Wands since 382 B.C. printed in gold lettering above the door.
Inside, the lighting was even more lacking then it appeared from the street, but it was just enough to show rows and rows of shelves filled with precariously stacked, slim boxes stretching endlessly into the back of the store.
Clover was so absorbed trying to see where the shelves ended through the gloom, she didn't notice when an old wizard with a stock of white hair popped up from behind the desk.
"Ah, Hogwarts student in need of wands, I presume?" the wizard spoke, making Clover jump and whirl around. His pale eyes shown in the darkness.
"No, sir, just my little sister," Jacob explained politely, taking a small step back to give Clover room.
"Oh, yes, I remember you now, Jacob. Sorry, it's been a long day of students coming in for wands. That phoenix feather should be holding up well. Oh, that was a fine batch of maple wood it was made from," the wizard added wistfully. "Now, where was I?"
The wizard, who Clover figured to be Mr. Ollivander, took a long tape measure with silver markings out of his pocket. "Which is your wand arm?"
"Um-" she glanced at Jacob, but he just nodded encouragingly- "well, I'm right-handed."
"Excellent, of course. Now, hold out your arm- yes, just like that." He then proceeded to measure Clover elbow to finger, wrist to elbow, then a dozen other places, such as around her head, that the young witch didn't think should affect her wand at all.
"Every Ollivander wand has a core of a powerful magical substance, Ms.Turner," Mr. Ollivander explained as he continued to measure. "We use unicorn hairs, phoenix tail feathers, and the heartstrings of dragons. No two Ollivander wands are the same, just as no two unicorns, dragons, or phoenixes are quite the same. And of course, you will never get such good results with another wizard's wand."
Jacob had told all of this to her before, of course, but the shop owner spoke with a different kind of gleeful passion. It was so entrancing, Clover didn't interrupt him to tell her that she already knew.
"Now, let's see here..." Mr. Ollivander had abandoned his measuring and was now scurrying among the shelves, sometimes climbing up on a latter, pulling down boxes. With a jolt, Clover realized she was still being measured- the tape measure was flying through the air on its own. She looked to Jacob for help, but he just shrugged with a small smile, like this was the normal procedure.
"That's enough," Mr. Ollivander told the tape measure with a curt nod, and it abruptly fell to the floor in a pile, inanimate once again.
"Let's try...
