autumn

Chapter 1
her favorite color was orange,

for the falling of the leaves in autumn.

the twirling, swirling dance they preformed as they fell to the ground-

a last desperate attempt to be noticed as they were cut from their life source,

before they were crushed underfoot.

But for her, they were impossible to ignore.

on the good days, she strolled in the street,

the ambers and golds and browns piled in the gutter making for good company.

on the bad days, she stomped on the sidewalk,

reveling in the destruction she caused as each crisp leaf crunched under the powerful soles of her boots.

the leaves were herself; she was the leaves.

admired as though nothing was wrong.

the decent of the leaves was natural, after all.

a crying child was natural, after all.

breathtaking as the life was drained from her,

beautiful as she fell,

and cast aside once her moment of glory was over and gone.

destined to be cast into the gutter,

to rot away all alone in darkness without being spared a second thought,

and be forgotten by the tree who bore her.

her favorite color was orange,

for the falling of the leaves in autumn.

the twirling, swirling dance they preformed as they fell to the ground-

a last desperate attempt to be noticed as they were cut from their life source,

before they were crushed underfoot.
