Hide & Seek
Chapter 1
Brooke sat in a corner of the stairwell in Malfoy Manor, hoping to not be spotted. She heard a loud noise; her brother no doubt. He probably was up to some mischeif around the Manor. "When will that boy ever mature?" Brooke muttered to herself. She heard another noise. It didn't really sound like Draco, so she got up and ran as quietly to her brother's room as she should, since it was closest. "What are you doing?" Draco asked, as Brooke slammed the door shut. "Hiding. What does it look like I'm doing?" Brooke answered. Draco scoffed, and folded his arms. "You're not still scared of that Potter are you?" He asked, about ready to laugh. "Not nessacarily him. Just the danger Hogwarts will be," Brooke said timidly. Draco took the smile off his face like he knew something she didn't. "Brooke, as long as im there, I will never let you get hurt," He said to her. Brooke felt a little better, but not totally reassured. "Besides, with Dumbledore there, it's nearly impossible for anything to happen," He said. "Draco, people are talking. They say Dumbledore's not gonna be here much longer. He is getting a bit old, you know?" Brooke said. Draco's face looked pale with fright and nervousness. "You'll be fine," He said. "I'll make sure of it," He added with a bad looking grin. "What's wrong?" Brooke asked. She was about to add something else, but Draco cut her off by bringing her into a tight hug. It was very awkward, since they never hugged. When Draco let go of her, Brooke's face was astonished. "What is wrong with you?" Brooke asked immediantly. Draco didn't answer. "Stay in the castle at night. Don't leave after ten o'clock," He said quietly. "Why? What is going o-," But she was cut off again. "Promise me!" Draco said louder. Brooke looked at him in disbelief. "Promise me," Draco said, his voice cracking. "I promise," Brooke said quietly. Brooke opened his bedroom door a bit, and peaked around the corner. She turned back to her brother. He had turned his back and began packing again. Brooke decided not to leave, but ask him some questions about his classes, to try to draw the conversation a different direction. "How hard were your classes last year?" Brooke asked. "Let's just say that by the time you are a sixth year, like me, you're gonna wish that you tried harder on the tests," He answered. "Is it an important year for studies?" Brooke asked. "If you mean the year that decides your entire future, then yes," Draco asked. Brooke was glad he was back to his normal, snarky self, not the hugging, soft Draco. Brooke went up to him and punched him on the shoulder. "Ouch!" He complained. "What are you going to do? Tell Mum?" She mocked. Draco moved his mouth in tiny incriments, mimicking her. Brooke smiled at him. Brooke heard the door open slightly, and jumped behind Draco's bed that way whoever the visitor was, couldn't spot her. "Hey Mum," Draco said. "Have you seen your sister? I've been looking up and down for her," Mrs. Malfoy said. Brooke curled up into a ball in the corner. He was going to rat her out. She just knew it. "Er," Draco stuttered a bit. Mrs. Malfoy crossed her arms, and stared her son in the face. "Well?" She pressed. "I believe I saw her running around the courtyard. It was a few minutes ago," Draco said. "Any idea where she might have gone from there? I need to take her shopping for her school supplies before we must leave for the station" Mrs. Malfoy said. "Can't you go shopping without her?" Draco asked. "Not when I still need to purchase school robes," Mrs. Malfoy said, moving closer to the door. Draco glanced to his school chest. He noticed he'd better finish packing, if they were leaving soon. "Well, come find me when you find her," Mrs. Malfoy said, and she exited the room. Brooke popped up, and flopped down on the bed. "Brooke, you need to go to Diagon Alley with Mum," Draco said. "You care now? I'm pretty sure it was just yesterday you told me, 'if you hide well, i can get you out of that trip to the alley'?" Brooke said, folding her arms. "I changed my mind," Draco said. Brooke made a pounting face, but Draco didn't budge. "Hogwarts will be amazing," Draco reassured her. Brooke gave up and went towards the door. "And full of suprises," Draco muttered to himself. "What?" Brooke asked him. "Nothing," He said. Brooke rolled her eyes, then opened the door. "Mum!" She yelled. Then she exited the room, leaving Draco alone to his thoughts. (A/N, Draco had just gotten to assignment of killing dumbledore). "I must protect her," Draco said in his head. "At all costs,".
