Chapter 5
Brooke sat in silence in the corner of the dark corridor she had entered moments ago, watching the professors talk in a low voice about her. Brooke almost couldn't take it anymore. "Can someone explain what's happening?" Brooke said angrily. The professors turned, taken aback. "Ms. Malfoy, we would If we had a clue!" Professor McGonagall retorted. Then they turned back to each other, and continued their conversation. Brooke got more and more annoyed at the minute, and desperately wished she had Theo there with her. At least he'd talk to her. Brooke started tapping her foot around in the silence. The professors stopped talking, and each stared at the floor, deeply in thought. Brooke heard a door open, and a professor with dark, black, greasy hair, ran up the staircase, chasing whoever came in, out. "What's wrong?" Brooke asked. "I'm afraid Mr. Riddle is still confused as to why we've been down here for over two hours," Professor Dumbledore answered. "Riddle? Theo's up there?" Brooke asked, completely shocked. Why would Theo be so invested in her? They only really only just met. "Yes," Dumbledore answered. "Who was that who ran after him?" Brooke questioned the headmaster. "That was Professor Snape. The Head of Slytherin," Dumbledore said to her. Brooke nodded, slowly. They stared at each other for a moment, the other professors lurking in the back. "Can I leave yet?" Brooke asked. "Unfortunately, no," Professor McGonagall said. A sudden rage overpowered her. "Why not? You guys do know, I've never been here in my entire life, and I have no idea what to do," Brooke said. "As a matter of fact, we do know that!" Another professor said loudly. "Would you rather we brought someone you know down here? Your brother perhaps? Or maybe Mr. Riddle? He seemed really determined to speak to you," Dumbledore said. "Just Theo," Brooke said quietly. "Very well," Dumbledore said, a small grin on his face. "I shall tell Severus," McGonagall said. Brooke's eyes followed McGonagall as she walked up the staircase. McGonagall opened the door, and Brooke heard Snape and Theo's conversation. "Tell me, Mr. Riddle, why you wanted to get down into the corridor, knowing the entire school staff was down there?" Snape said. Brooke awaited the answer. "Just concered for my friend," was Theo's answer. Brooke heard McGonagall tell Snape the situation. Sooner than expected, Theo was down the staircase, and by Brooke's side. "Hey," Theo said in a low, comforting voice. "Hi," Brooke said in a whisper. "We've come to a desicion," Dumbledore prompted. Brooke turned her face to Dumbledore, but she could feel Theo's gaze locked on her. "To let you do a rotation of each House. Kind of a test run of which one you would like to stay in," Dumbledore finished. Brooke turned back to Theo. He was still looking at her. "That's a good idea," Brooke said. "You will only have thirty days to determine which house best suits you. Until August 1st," Dumbledore said. "August 1st," Brooke repeated. "You are free to go. We have alerted all the portraits to allow you in. You shall ask fellow students where the clubhouses are, since Mr. Riddle won't be able to know," McGonagall said. "Perfect," Brooke said. Theo took her hand. "Let me show you to the Slytherin common room," He said. Brooke smiled. Finally, she could go where she'd most feel at home. Theo led her out of the corridor, and up the staircase. They exited the Great Hall, and made for the Grand Staircase. But instead of going up, then turned and went down a passageway almost not visible. "Quickest way to the Slytherin Dorms," Theo said, to cure Brooke's curiosity. Brooke noticed Theo was still holding her hand. Brooke hesitated in letting go, but she really liked the comfort of his skin, the warmth of his body in her hand. Brooke ended up holding his hand tighter, dreading the minute she would have to let go. Theo led her through the passage, until they reappeared in a dark, greenish dungeon. "The Slytherin Dungeons," Theo said, presenting the room. "Cozy," Brooke said sarcastically. "Let's go," Theo said, and showed her the entrance to the Slytherin Common Room. Theo then let go of her hand. A sharp pain hit Brooke in the gut, but she decided not to worry about it. "The password is, 'Pure-Blood'," Theo said to her. Brooke turned her head reluctantly from Theo to the blank wall in front of them. "Pure-Blood," She said. The next five seconds of her existance seemed nothing but a dream. The walls immediantly turned into double doors, emerald green, with a serpent over the archway. The doors of the entrance opened, allowing the two students to step inside. Brooke tried to take everything in. She decided to settle down by the windows, where a bunch of first years were sitting. They talked alot about mermaids lurking in the sea, since they were underwater, and had the first view of life under the sea. Brooke knew those were all myths. Fairytales, even. Mermaids won't be that close to Hogwarts, if they were real or not. It was very late. Around ten o'clock, and even Brooke wasn't even tired. She wasn't allowed in the Dormitories, because she wasn't an offical Slytherin, so they asked her to sleep on the couches in the Common Room. Brooke asked Theo and Draco to stay down with her, because she didn't want to be alone. They both agreed. There was only two couches, so someone had to share, or lie on the ground. Brooke honestly didn't care. "I'll sleep on the floor," Theo said. Theo then went and got some blankets for everyone, and a bunch of pillows. Once everyone was settled into their positions, Brooke was have deja vu. "Remember when we use to have sleepovers? When our parents were in meetings very late, and Theo couldn't go home?" Brooke said. Theo chuckled. "I remember," Theo said. "Gosh, B, you were so young back then," Draco said. "Not like you were that much older," Brooke teased. "The year we had sleepovers practially three times a week, I was 10. The year before I went to Hogwarts. Little ferret over here was nine, and you, Brooke, were eight," Theo said. "Just a few kids, doing their best to keep their trauma behind them," Brooke muttered. The boys murmered in agreement. They sat in silence for a few minutes, when Brooke broke the silence. "Things are going to be weird, now that I'm here," Brooke said. "If anything, things will get better," Theo said. "Yeah. B, it's going to be a great year," Draco said. Brooke didn't really feel reassured. "Whatever is coming, I do know that it will be a year of firsts," Brooke said. "Year of firsts, except you aren't a first year," Theo mocked. "Shut up!" Brooke said, and she threw a pillow at his face. "You are so immature!" Theo said, but then retalliated, and threw a pillow back at her. "This means war!" Brooke declared. The boys laughed. And then, they had a pillow fight, up until two in the morning.
