Charlotte
“Rose what's wrong?!” I ran up to Rose.
“Why are you two fighting?” Rose asked, letting out a sniffle.
“I honestly have no clue. Why don’t you ask Pretty Miss London?” I said, crossing my arms again. Rose looked over to Hellen.
“I—I—um,” Hellen stared at the floor. She started to fidget with her hands.
“No reason, right?” I said as Rose grabbed my arm.
“I’m sorry, Rose for making you cry. We were arguing because I—I—um…” Hellen looked at Rose, then back to her feet. The room went silent as we waited for Hellen to say something.
“Let's go, Rose,” I said sharply. I left the room slamming the door behind me. We made our way downstairs.
“I'm going home,” I mumbled to Rose. “Can you let Edmund know I left?” Rose nodded her head. I took a deep breath to help myself calm down and made my way towards the door. I roughly opened the door and stormed out.
“Hey! Wait up! Charlotte, wait!” I turned around to see who had called my name.
“Go away Charles,” I said as I continued to stomp off.
“Oh, come on! Is something bothering thee, Juliet?” I heard his voice grow closer.
“I'm not in the mood for it right now, Charles!” We were now walking side by side.
“That's not very ladylike of you,” Charles said in a mocking tone. I just ignored him as he followed me home.
After about 30 minutes of walking, we arrived at the bakery.
“You can go now, Charles.” I made a shooing motion with my hands as I spoke.
“Well I'm staying,” Charles said following me inside the bakery. I stormed into the kitchen, ignoring any form of greeting that Delilah or a soldier could do.
“Charlotte?” I heard Delilah’s voice say. “Charles, do you know what happened?”
“I heard her and Hellen arguing,” Charles’s voice said. I blocked out any sound I heard. I took pins from my hair and I removed my shoes and stockings. This is why I can't trust people. I began pacing around the kitchen. I only heard the muffled voices of everyone in the other room. Hellen can apologize to Rose but not me! I thought she was my friend! I felt tears run down my face.
“Hey, Charlotte, are you okay?” Delilah’s muffled voice asked me as she placed her hands on my shoulders.
“I'm fine.” I just looked at the ground.
“You're not fine, you're crying.” She pulled me into a hug.
