All Aboard Once More

Chapter 68

Hellen

I journeyed for the remainder of the day on my way to the harbor, hoisting my heavy suitcase behind me. I was to travel alone. I hadn’t spoken to Philip or Sarah in almost a week, for I’d been gone, and now I’d never see them again. I wouldn’t see Charles either, but he wouldn’t care. He wouldn’t care if I were dead by morning, and with my awful luck, I wouldn’t either. I didn’t care, though. I just wanted to obey my brother for once in my life rather than making him obey me.

I found the harbor early in the morning on the fourteenth of November. I boarded a ship called the Lincoln Atlantic

I was not a stowaway this time, for I had purchased a ticket this time and I introduced myself to a French girl about my age named Renée Dubois. She was also on her way to try for a better life.

We chatted for ten minutes while we waited for the ship to set sail. Apparently, she was one of ten children and she was the second youngest; right before her ten-year-old sister, Jacquelyn. She had four other sisters, and she also had four brothers.

I explained to her about my past choices about coming to America and how I’d lost my brother, Simon on my way there. I told her about Philip, Charles, and Sarah. I left out the part about Charlotte because I wanted to forget about the Patriot who turned me American. I was ready to be one hundred percent British.

Everything changed when the captain’s voice announced that we were setting off on our journey to La Havre, France.
