Lesson 4) The Remedy is the Experience (Lab #1: Cure for Boils)
Chapter 4
- Boils are infected glands or hair follicles that can be painful and dangerous if untreated
- The Cure for Boils potion is applied topically to draw out and drain the boil
- Clean and treat the site with healing potions or herbs after draining
- Follow the directions on the board or at your brewing station
- The instructor will demonstrate and assist during brewing
- Temperature measurements are provided in Kelvin, Celsius, and Fahrenheit
- Wear goggles for safety and use the eye-rinsing station if needed
- Use the Stirring Charm "Halato" to stir without dipping the wand
- Say the charm every time and don't worry if you forget occasionally
- Estimated brewing time for Cure for Boils:
- Pewter cauldron: 44 minutes
- Brass cauldron: 40 minutes and 6 seconds
- Copper cauldron: 36 minutes and 33.4 seconds
- Ingredients: water, snake fangs, horned slugs, porcupine quills, Flobberworm mucus
- Brewing instructions are divided into three parts: Part One, Part Two, and To Finish
- Part One involves heating water, adding crushed snake fangs, adjusting temperature, and brewing for a specific time
- Part Two includes adding horned slugs, removing cauldron from heat to add porcupine quills, waving wand, and brewing for a specific time
- To Finish, remove cauldron from heat, add Flobberworm mucus, let it thicken, stir, and bottle in a labeled phial
- Usage notes: avoid sensitive areas, seek medical assistance if it gets in the eyes, possible mild allergic reactions, safe for children, elderly, and pregnant individuals, topical use only
- Storage considerations: label phials, consider light and temperature preferences for optimal shelf life
- Cure for Boils can be stored at room temperature for up to four years before safely discarding it at a hazardous potion collection day organized by the Ministry
