charms: lesson one
Chapter 1
magic in the past:
- any magic weilder could use magic openly + freely
- magic users were held in high regard
- ollivander family is responsible for the first instance of dedicated wand making; making them since 382 B.C.E
1000 C.E — 1400 C.E:
- around 1000 C.E was when the wizarding world began separating from muggles
- from 1000 C.E to 1400 C.E the wizarding world was ruled by the council of warlocks
- in the 1400s, multiple magic governments started forming (based on ethnic & culture values + location)
1600s:
- magic users were killed by muggles
- wizards & witches would use charms to evade death
1689: international statue of secrecy was passed
- law enforced the separation of wizards & muggles
- made to protect the two world from eachother
- each government was responsible for keeping the two worlds separated within their borders
- took a further 3 years before it was followed by all governments
1875: decree for the responsible restriction of underage sorcery
- no student allowed to participate in magic outside of school
- exceptions: your life in danger, or another magic weilder, or muggles life is also in danger
- magic will be emideantaly detected
- applies to anyone under 17
wand history:
- magic was not always formally taught or controlled
- the wand allows us to focus + channel our power to what we wish
wand-lighting charm:
- incantation: lumos (loo-mos')
- wand movement: single counter-clockwise loop
- willpower: low; determines the color of light
- concentration: low; lighting up top of wand
wand-extinguishing charm:
- incantation: nox (nock-ss')
- wand movement: flick of wand
- willpower: none
- concentration: none
