Musical Number - “Don’t Wanna Know”

Maroon 5’s new single with Kendrick Lamar “Don’t Wanna Know" dropped late Tuesday evening on October 11th and, like most of their hit singles, you should be getting ready to hear this song quite often over the next few months as it has already become a favorite request on stations like Z100. Their first new music since 2014's, V has a distinctly non–Maroon 5 sound; the song is a breezy, bouncy, lighthearted spin on drinking to forget, and dancing to dull the pain of finding yourself out of a relationship that may have been more important than what you thought it was.

Now, I had the pleasure of attending a Maroon 5 concert in early September, and the boys featured this song in a more stripped down fashion. Where the single harkens to the older and more jazzy Maroon 5, the inclusion of Kendrick Lamar and Benny Blanco’s influence still keep it away from what the band's original sound was. The stripped down version at the concert though; that was a beautiful blast from the past.

Personally, I happen to like this song. It is simple, it is light and it fits on a playlist somewhere between Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” and Major Lazer’s “Lean On.” The Music Video is also quite the entertaining spoof on the popular Pokemon Go game, as Adam, the band, and multiple celebrity cameos run around dressed at fake Pokemon’s trying to get away from their phone waving hunters. If anything the video is quite the laugh.

Lyrics:

Oh hey
Oh, oh hey
Oh, oh, oh hey
Uh oh, uh oh

I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, no
I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, oh
I don't wanna know

Wasted (wasted)
And the more I drink the more I think about you
Oh no, no, I can't take it
Baby every place I go reminds me of you

Do you think of me
Of what we used to be?
Is it better now
That I'm not around?
My friends are actin' strange
They don't bring up your name
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?

I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, no
I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, oh
I don't wanna know

And every time I go out, yeah
I hear it from this one, I hear it from that one
That you got someone new, yeah
I see but don't believe it
Even in my head you're still in my bed
Maybe I'm just a fool

Do you think of me
Of what we used to be?
Is it better now
That I'm not around?
My friends are actin' strange
They don't bring up your name
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?

I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, no
I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, oh
I don't wanna know

[Kendrick Lamar:]
No more “please stop”
No more hashtag boo'd up screenshots
No more tryna make me jealous on your birthday
You know just how I make it better on your birthday, oh
Do he do you like this, do he woo you like this?
Do he lay it down for you, touch your poona like this?
Matter of fact, never mind, we gon' let the past be
Maybe his right now, but your body's still with me, whoa

I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, no
I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, oh
I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, no
I don't wanna know, know, know, know
Who's taking you home, home, home, home
And loving you so, so, so, so
The way I used to love you, oh
I don't wanna know

Oh hey
Oh, oh hey
Oh, oh, oh hey
Uh oh, uh oh
