“If Miss Burbank came here yesterday afternoon according to Mr. Paul, then? Wait, but Mr Paul was lying as we saw her dead. However, she does dance lessons on Tuesday afternoons with the Yr 3 class at 11:30 to 1pm and you saw her dead around 2pm. So the person that murdered her must have done it between 1-4pm. It seems strange that someone commits a murder in broad daylight, don’t you think? Anyway, that’s the best information we have got so far. We will find out which teachers were near the studio at that time, to begin with. Jade, I know this seems silly but I think we must skip classes today because we must investigate as soon as possible, ASAP,” Willow explained whilst walking to our first lesson.
I nodded my head and we ran, more silently than ever before back to our room. There were four teachers who were free and had no lesson to teach today so we started with them.
Pretending that we were sent from our class teacher, we asked Mrs Doyle, “Hello Mrs Doyle, we were sent from Mr Maddox to ask you something. He asked if you were near the studio from 1-2pm?”
“Huh, he asked you that question, did he? I’m sure he must already know. How strange of him, we were together doing what Miss…
Umm, girls, please head off,” Mrs Doyle answered.
“But, you didn’t answer the question?” Willow said
“Yes, I was there. Now, you must not miss so much of your lesson.” She replied, walking off rather quickly.
“Willow, do you think Mam was about to say Miss Burbank?” I asked
“Of course Jade, she was stammering with fear, it’s so obvious. And, she was working with Mr Maddox.”
Willow thought that Mrs Doyle and Mr Maddox were close to being the perfect murderer but I disagreed. I told Willow that Mrs Doyle said, ‘We were together doing what Miss…’ so Miss Burbank obviously told them to do something. Then Willow said, we were not entirely sure that she was going to say Miss Burbank. I agreed with her and we walked over back to Mr Maddox in the lesson and asked him the same question so he answered, “First thing is that you will be getting detention and second thing I was there doing what Miss Burbank ordered us to, Oh no! Pretend I said nothing girls, sit down!” Sir shouted.
It was only until the end of the lesson that me and Willow were able to go investigate more. There was no exception, we both knew that Mr Maddox and Mrs Doyle were up to something. However, we also both thought that maybe, Miss Burbank ordered them to murder her. But why?
Before we were sure of this, we headed to the Headmistress not expecting much from her.
“Hello girls, isn’t today a wonderful day. Less work, now that a teacher has gone and I hope it lasts forever. It’s lucky that she left before something worse could happen. I’m holding a celebration in my office to celebrate that Miss Burbank is gone, would you care to join?’ the headmistress said, all joyful and bright.
“Umm, we were hoping to ask if Miss Burbank really retired. We miss her more than ever,” we said, confused with the headmistress's words.
“No girls, you must not miss her. The school is better without her. Yes she has retired and you should be happy about that. Now, GET OUT!” She roared, filled with fury and anger.
Me and Willow ran out of her office, not wanting to get into more trouble. The headmistress was happy about this which is a strong reason why she would murder Miss Burbank. We were both thinking about the same thing.
We went to one last teacher, Miss Gibson and asked the same question that we did to all teachers, and here is the answer,”I know why you are asking this. You want to know if I got a signature from Miss Burbank. Oh girls, she would be so happy to know that you miss her so much but unfortunately, I have no signature,” she replied.
Willow sighed and walked away. However, I thought of something more. Miss Gibson did think a bit before she said this and she might’ve been thinking of an excuse instead of saying that she murdered Miss Burbank. That is what I told willow. As soon as she heard, she hugged me harder than ever before and I told me, ‘What would I do without you?’
I wrote why these four people could have murdered Miss Burbank:
Mrs Doyle=Was there at the time and was doing one of Miss Burbanks orders at the exact time.
Mr Maddox=working with Mrs Doyle, same reason
Headmistress Spindle=Really happy that Miss Burbank left and said that it was lucky that she did that before something worse happened. Murder.
Miss Gibson= Making excuses instead of saying that she did the murder.
Most likely: Mrs Doyle and Mr Maddox
Less likely: Miss Gibson
